I do think that Inside should be a classic because it is such a great horror movie. It also happens to be one of the bloodiest films I have ever seen. If the "High Tension" movie pushed the envelope, Inside ends up ripping it off. Of course, unlike so many other horror movies that go over the top with gore and end up being really bad, Inside turns out to be a great movie excellent acting, extremely well plotted and very suspenseful.
Like The Decent movie, the film opens with a car accident. Sara (Alysson Paradis) is pregnant and in the drivers seat and her husband is dead in the passenger seat. Next scene a few months later and Sara is at the hospital where she's getting ready to have a birth. She disturbs her mom by telling her that she wants to spend Christmas Eve by herself at her house. Riots are keeping the police busy that night as well.
A very weird woman shows up and knocks on her front door, telling her she needs to use the phone. Sara tries to get rid of the weirdo, claiming her husand is asleep. She will need to use someone else's phone. The woman then informs Sara that her husband can't be asleep, because he's dead.
The stranger is named as only La Femme, and she's played superbly by Béatrice Dalle, an actress whose Barbara Steele-esque bone structure makes her great for a horror film. Wearing a black dress, La Femme is more than willing to kill, lie and torture to get what she wants, which is Sarah's unborn baby. "I want one," she tells Sarah during the movie. "Who would want to fuck a maniac like you?" Sarah replys to her.
Every one the people that try and rescue sarah which is basically the entire cast for the movie show up, but turns out no match for La Femme, including the police and all end up getting killed. The more that show up, the worse things end up getting, until Sarah has to revert into a bloodied wild woman even to the point of performing a tracheotomy on herself if she wants to be able to survive the night.
Directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury end up making the low budget film work to their advantage by increasing the viewer's sense of claustrophobia. In addition to the excellent performances, especially from Dalle who would go down as a scream queen icon if she could star in some more horror movies, the film boasts extremely good gore effects.
Released back in 2008, by Dimension Extreme, the film is a must watch for us horror fans. Bustillo and Maury have are actually hired by Dimension to direct the Hellraiser remake, but it is unlikely that they could ever make anything as primal and excellent as Inside though they can try.
